TEK (Of Smif-N-Wessun) Interview with WeLiveThis.com Part 2

For part two of his interview with WeLiveThis.com, TEK (of Smif-N-Wessun) speaks on the artists that he would like to work with/would have liked to have work with. He then goes on to discuss what he feels the difference is between the hip hop artists of ’93-96 and the hip hop artists of today. Lastly, TEK discusses the projects that he and Steele have in the works, including the new Smif-N-Wessun album produced entirely by Pete Rock. The legendary underground hip hop duo is looking for album name suggestions, so speak your mind! At the end of the interview clip, check some footage of TEK in the recording process of Grind With Me, produced by S-Type, off TEK’s upcoming solo project, 24Kt Smoke.

A Smif-N-Wessun album produced entirely by Pete Rock definitely sounds like a crazy project that is unbelievable for underground hip hop music, and hip hop music in general. You’ve already been treated to a few joints from Steele’s Welcome To Bucktown project. Stay tuned for some leaks off TEK’s 24Kt Smoke coming soon. Part 3 of the WeLiveThis.com interview with TEK will drop early next week!

As a bonus, here’s the original version of Death Iz 4Ever, produced by Don Notz. This track was on TEK’s last solo project, U.G.P. The G-Mix of the track featuring both TEK and Steele will be featured on TEK’s 24Kt Smoke, and Don Notz debut compilation album, Lead By Example.

D-Block – Get That Paper Video Shoot

Power Played DVD takes you behind the scenes with a trailer of sorts for the D-Block Get That Paper video shoot. A lotta solid cameos/drops in this clip, including Sheek Louch, Styles P, Jim Jones, Kid Capri, Bully, Pete Rock and Jadakiss.

The trailer didn’t really show much of the video outside the Jadakiss car scene, but they defintely put the entire video production nicely. Pete Rock also dropped some info… its good to see the Chocolate Boy Wonder, Soul Brother #1 still gettin’ love in the industry, as he’s without a doubt a legend and one of the best hip hop producers to do it.

The new D-Block album, No Security, drops June 2nd. Look out for the Get That Paper video coming real soon. And of course, the new Jadakiss album, The Last Kiss, is in stores now. Support good hip hop music.

Talib Kweli Performs Live At Fat Beats NY on Record Store Day ’09

Here’s the last of the footage from Record Store Day ’09 courtesy of TheUndergroundComeUp.com. Talib Kweli spits a true freestyle for the crowd after he and DJ Premier signed autographs for all those that came out. All I gotta say is boo to the crowd for not recognizing Idle Warship. I mean, props to them for coming out and hopefully buying a record or two, but Idle Warship is damned good music, and even though Talib Kweli says they aren’t hip hop, they do embody the fusion of hip hop with other genres of music.

Talib Kweli announces that the release of the new Reflection Eternal track, Back Again. You can watch the video for Back Again here. All in all, the Record Store Day ’09 events at Fat Beats NY looked to be a success, though I’m sure the fiscal bottom line matters most at the end of the day. With the daily release of music, its tough to justify going out and buying records, but let me say this, if you do support hip hop music, and live the hip hop culture… hit your local record store if it still exists at least once/month and drop that $15. I’m off my soapbox.

Torae and Marco Polo Perform at Fat Beats NY on Record Store Day ’09

More on Record Store Day ’09 at Fat Beats NY. Shoutouts to TheUndergroundComeUp.com for the video footage of this event. In this video clip, Torae and Marco Polo represent for that real hip hop and talk about their upcoming album, Double Barrel, to the crowd. Torae and Marco Polo reveal the guest appearances to the crowd, but more importantly emphasize the presence of Torae on the mic throughout. Torae goes on to perform But Wait, the first leaked track off Double Barrel, which is in stores June 2nd. Torae goes off on But Wait, which has been one of my favorite tracks to drop this month.

Torae and Marco Polo have been hittin’ their fans and underground hip hop music listeners in the head the past month with Double Barrel Tuesdays. Double Barrel, which drops in a little over a month, promises to be a masterpiece in and of itself. We’ll be doing our thing here at WeLiveThis.com to support Torae and Marco Polo by having a link up directing to iTunes.
