Looks like September is shaping up nicely for hip hop music, and the Wu Tang clan. After a solid opening week for their Chamber Music release, the Wu is ready to hit the masses once again in September with not only Raekwon’s highly anticipated Only Built 4 Cuban Linx II release, but also Wizard of Poetry, the upcoming album from Ghostface Killah.
From the words of Lenny S, Wizard of Poetry sounds like its going to be a little different than the typical Ghostface Killah album. Not only will Ghostface Killah be rapping over soulful, melodic beats, but he’ll also be working with the best of the best in R&B, including John Legend, Musiq Soulchild, Estelle, and the like. Check the video!
Raekwon recently had a photoshoot with LRG in preparation to promote their fall clothing line up. Here is some video footage of the photo shoot. Is it me, or does LRG always seem to get the illest artists for their shoots? Good promo for Raekwon too with Only Built 4 Cuban Linx II arriving in September.
Skyzoo premiered this hip hop video trailer for The Beautiful Decay, which is produced by 9th Wonder. The Beautiful Decay will be featured on The Salvation, which drops August 25 on Duck Down Records. The Salvation will be a must cop, as Skyzoo is one of the nicest MCs in the hip hop music industry.
Skyzoo presents part 1 and 2 of the making of his upcoming album The Salvation. In the series, Skyzoo previews some joints off The Salvation, which will be released on Jamla Records / Duck Down Records. From the sounds so far, Skyzoo delivers that classic hip hop music sound on The Salvation. I can’t say I’m surprised by that though, as I’m highly anticipating this album.
Eminem has released the official music video for his well received song, Beautiful. Beautiful is the fourth single off his Relapse album, and has been considered to be incredibly inspirational. The music video for Beautiful presents some dope visuals, and should be a solid success for Eminem.
Drake sat down with MTV for an interview after signing his record deal with Young Money. In the interview, he speaks on being an independent artist, and the need to have at least somewhat of a major label backing in order to reach the masses. Check below for a summary of the article from MTV.
Drake has made it official that he signed directly to his two managers, Cortez Bryant and Gee Roberson, and their company Inspire. The deal is a joint venture with Young Money. The distribution aspect of the record deal is handled through Universal. Drake believes that when all is said and done, it could be a legendary situation.
Drake has said that, while he loved the courting process, he believes it would be best to remain loyal, and stay with his managers. Is it me, or does one have to wonder if Drake really had any intentions of going anyone else? He worked this whole process incredibly to his advantage, and definitely walked away the winner.
In discussing the courting process, Drake had this to say: “Well, the whole thing with me was, I met some great people along the way. [Warner Music's] Lyor Cohen is such a special man to me, even though I am signed where I am signed at. You know, [Interscope head] Jimmy Iovine, same thing, a great person that taught me a lot in a very short period of time. But my loyalty lays with Wayne. For him to be able to benefit from the situation and for us to be able to brand Young Money, this is the route that I went.”
Drake is hoping to release his official debut LP, Thank Me Later, this year. He said he just finished recording with Pharrell Williams.
