Tru-Life Turns Himself In On 1st Degree Murder Charge

Tru-Life Turns Himself In On 1st Degree Murder Charge

Perhaps the biggest shocker in the news today was this one. It seems like a lot of artists are starting to show their support for Tru Life, as I saw Noreaga and Saigon voicing their prays and belief of his innocence. I’m hoping for Tru Life’s sake that he is innocent, as 1st Degree Murder is a serious charge. Here’s the scoop.

Last Monday, June 15, two men were stabbed (one of which was killed), in a Manhattan apartment building. Apparently, the two men were stabbed by gang members as an act of vengeance for the shooting of a drug dealer.

The two men were 30 year old Jason Black, and an unnamed 18 year old. Both men suffered stab wounds to the chest and face, resulting in the death of the 18 year old. Jason Black remains in critical condition.

As for the connection with Tru Life. Well, it is believed that the prior incident involving the shooting of a man was part of an on-going altercation between Jason Black, and the brother of Tru Life.

According to reports, it is believed that Tru Life may have actually been the man who stabbed and killed the unnamed 18 year old. Tru Life turned himself into police yesterday, Tuesday, June 23rd, on a 1st degree murder charge.

As mentioned, the stabbing is rumored to be in retaliation for a 4 a.m. shooting outside Pacha nightclub, where suspected drug dealer Michael Slater was shot in the abdomen. He is currently listed in stable condition at Bellevue Hospital.

Stay tuned for more updates. Say it ain’t so Tru Life.

Drake – Best I Ever Had CD Single Cover

Drake - Best I Ever Had Cover

Well, Drake went ahead and released the final cover for Best I Ever Had after deciding against a more abstract rendition for the hip hop song. Best I Ever Had is doing some serious damage on the charts, as Drake has the third best single on iTunes at the moment between two B.E.P. (Black Eyed Peas) songs.

Wu Tang Clan – Chamber Music Tracklist x Artwork

Wu Tang Clan - Chamber Music

The Wu is back with what appears to be an incredible release. It has been announced that the Wu Tang Clan will be releasing Chamber Music on June 30, 2009. RZA is once again taking on the executive producer role, while also being featured on various tracks on the album. Chamber Music pairs the original Wu Tang Clan MCs with other 90s-era New York hip hop music veterans. Chamber Music will be, without a doubt, what many have longed for as of a late, showcasing that raw, classic hip hop sound.

Chamber Music, which, as stated, will be in stores on June 30th, 2009, will feature Wu-Tang Clan members, Ghostface Killah, Raekwon, RZA, Inspectah Deck, and U-God, along side some of the illest artists of New York hip hop over the years. The list of artists includes Cormega, AZ, Havoc of Mobb Deep, Kool G. Rap, M.O.P., Sadat X, Masta Ace, and Sean Price of Heltah Skeltah.

The throwback sound of the Chamber Music album is inspired by classic soul and kung fu imagery. (What else did you expect!?) It will feature a combination of new beats and live instrumentation by the Brooklyn soul band, The Revelations.

Joe Budden Announces October 2009 Release for The Great Escape

Joe Budden Announces October Release for The Great Escape

Following the success of Halfway House and The Padded Room, it appears that Joe Budden and Amalgam Digital are ready to release another album, which will be entitled The Great Escape.

Joe Budden has stated that the album is actually the final piece of the concept trilogy, as he finally finds salvation and freedom from a sense of confinement that had defined his life and career. The Great Escape is slated to be one of Joe Budden’s best efforts yet (I feel like we hear this line whenever an artist releases a new album), and will feature several established producers and artists, which is a notable change from his usual formula. Joe Budden and Amalgam Digital have announced that The Great Escape will be released in both CD and digital form on October 13th, 2009, with two additional bonus tracks available when purchased digitally on www.AmalgamDigital.com.

In addition, Amalgam Digital and Joe Budden will release a prelude to The Great Escape by releasing a digital-only album, entitled Escape Route, in July of 2009. Joe Budden has said that Escape Route will give fans a taste of what to expect from him on The Great Escape. Escape Route will be available exclusively at www.AmalgamDigital.com.

Could Escape Route be one of the four EPs that each of the four Slaughterhouse members (Royce Da 5’9″, Joell Ortiz, Crooked I, and Joe Budden) have announced? We already know Royce Da 5’9″ is releasing The Revival on July 7, 2009. It only makes sense that Escape Route will be one of the four. This is going to be an incredible summer/fall for the Slaughterhouse quartet, as we now know of these four EPs, the Slaughterhouse album, Street Hop, and The Great Escape? It is, without a doubt, a good time to be a real hip hop fan. Good hip hop music is back!

Maino – If Tomorrow Comes Tracklist

Maino - If Tomorrow Comes

Am I particularly excited about the release of this album? I can’t say I am, though I will say that Maino has been on his grizzly for a minute, and If Tomorrow Comes is long overdue. While I’ve thought Maino is a solid artist with some serious street credibility for some time, I thought Hi Hater would be it for him. I hated that song, but it exploded and garnered him some serious airplay at a level that reminded me of This Is Why I’m Hot. However, contrary to MIMS, Maino has seemingly maintained his success level, as All Of The Above continues to receive serious spins. I’m sure the T-Pain hook has helped in that regard though. Anyhow, If Tomorrow Comes is a dope title. So check the cover for Maino’s debut album, If Tomorrow Comes, above. It is scheduled for release on June 30, 2009 on Atlantic Records. The tracklist is below.

Maino – If Tomorrow Comes
