Rakim - The Seventh Seal Album Cover

Well, reality is starting to set in. Here’s the album cover for Rakim’s The Seventh Seal. October 20, 2009… September and October are going to leave me broke with the number of incredible releases coming out in hip hop music. The Seventh Seal album cover looks epic and yes, divine-like… enough said.

Rakim Talks New York Hip Hop

In a hip hop interview with MTV, Rakim spoke on New York Hip Hop, and who he some of his favorite artists are from the Big Apple in today’s hip hop scene. Rakim lists Jay-Z, Fabolous, and Jadakiss as his favorite hip hop artists from New York. He also makes mention of Drake, saying that you cannot count him out as one of today’s top hip hop artists.

Rakim and Kid Capri Interview With AsTheWorldSpins

Rakim and Kid Capri got up with AsTheWorldSpins for an interview after their show at the Highline Ballroom in New York. Rakim speaks on his upcoming album and tour, and what he would consider his hip hop music wishlist. Rakim also speaks with AsTheWorldSpins about the younger generation of hip hop music and culture. I guess one can only dream… but at least Kid Capri would be involved, so it’d have to be somewhat decent… right MC Serch?

More Rakim Highline Ballroom Live Performance Footage

More footage from Rakim‘s Highline Ballroom live performance. This time, Dallas Penn comes through with the hip hop video footage in two parts, bringing viewers much closer to the stage than previous videos. Hard to believe that Rakim’s Seventh Seal album is finally coming out. Strange as it is, the timing for the release is perfect… I can’t believe I’m saying that, but its true.

Rakim Performs Live At Highline Ballroom

The god Rakim performed live last night at the Highline Ballroom, giving his fans more of a glimpse into his upcoming Seventh Seal album. Its hard to believe, but the long overdue Seventh Seal album is about to drop. Rakim performed his first single, Holy Are You, as to be expected, but he also performed another track, No Man Above. Rakim seemed more in his element at Highline Ballroom than he did on his Good Day New York performance on Fox 5.

Rakim Performs Holy Are You at the Knitting Factory

Props to Mr. X for bringing this video back. In fact, I was talking with Dan Green today about Rakim’s Holy Are You, and he had mentioned seeing Rakim perform the song live well prior to its leak. Well, here’s the video. Rakim performed Holy Are You at the Knitting Factory on December 19, 2008.

Rakim Interview with Up and Up TV

Substantial of QN5 and Up and Up TV sit down for an interview with Rakim. Rakim speaks about coming up with a musical upbringing and how that’s influenced him as a hip hop artist. Rakim speaks on playing the sax in school, and how he used to try to mimic John Coltraine’s cadence on the sax with his flow.

Rakim also speaks on the Nas comparison, and how Nas used to come to the studio when Rakim was recording Paid in Full and Follow The Leader. He speaks on who he was listening to as a young artist, and how he realized the importance of capturing a crowd’s attention with his rhymes.

All in all, this was a dope interview. The people behind Up and Up TV have their video editing craft on smash, and Substantial hit Rakim with some good questions. On the flipside, Rakim delivered some quality answers and some interesting info. Definitely worth the watch if you love real hip hop music.
