Skyzoo – The Salvation Cover and Tracklist

Skyzoo - The Salvation

Skyzoo has released the official press release, cover and tracklist for his upcoming album, The Salvation. The Salvation will be released on Jamla Records / Duckdown Records on September 29, 2009. I gotta say, the album cover for The Salvation is one of my favorite album covers for 2009. Check the tracklist, and then the press release follows. Take note, aside from Carlitta Durand, Skyzoo seems to have ZERO features on this album, which could be considered his debut. With no features and an all-star production team, The Salvation is reminiscent of hmmm… I won’t dare say it til we hear the final product.

Press Release

Brooklyn-raised emcee Skyzoo is here to remind Hip Hop fans that the music can still be true to life and heartfelt. With numerous Mix CDs on his resume, most recently, The Power of Words with DJ Drama and Statik Selektah, Skyzoo is currently preparing his first national full-length LP, “The Salvation,” in stores September 29th, via Jamla Records/Duck Down.

The Salvation will be set apart from Skyzoo’s previous Mix CD releases in various ways, however Skyzoo explains that “it’s another constant sign of elevation and growth, and it’s the most personal work I’ve ever done.” Although in the past he has released records such as “The Bodega,” “Stop Foolin’ Yourself,” and “Extreme Measures,” which were all true to life, Skyzoo promises that they will not reach the personal extent that the tracks on The Salvation will bring to listeners. Songs such as “For What It’s Worth” and “Metal Hearts” help contribute to the feeling that Skyzoo expects his audience to have; that their $15 was well spent on the album, they could relate to it, and that the project will stand the test of time.

A tactic taken by Skyzoo to emphasize the personal aspect of The Salvation was to not load the album up with features from other rappers. He states, “The moment you pick up a pen or start rhyming as a kid, all you think about is getting an album out. This album isn’t exactly the way I planned it out at 9-years-old, but it tells my story. With that being said, no one can help tell my story better than me. The Salvation is about me.”

Alongside the extremely personal element of The Salvation comes the conceptual side of the project. Theme was the name of the game for Skyzoo’s debut album, and this is evidenced in how the production was handled. According to Skyzoo, “it wasn’t really a ‘who’s hot, who’s not’ type of thing. It was more so ‘just get what sounds right.’ I got a lot of big name producers, and I also got a lot of up and comers.” Included in the production credits for The Salvation are Washington D.C.-based production team Best Kept Secret (who work in-house for Wale), Seattle’s Eric G (who some may recognize as providing a few beats to Torae), and Cyrus tha Great, as well as 9th Wonder, Nottz (who produced the single “Popularity”), Just Blaze, Illmind, Needlz and Black Milk.

Fans have seen a sneak peek of Skyzoo’s first LP in the form of a video for a track entitled “Beautiful Decay,” produced by 9th Wonder. The video is directed by Artemus Jenkins, and sets out to reflect life in the various boroughs of New York.

Skyzoo – The Beautiful Decay Video Trailer

Skyzoo premiered this hip hop video trailer for The Beautiful Decay, which is produced by 9th Wonder. The Beautiful Decay will be featured on The Salvation, which drops August 25 on Duck Down Records. The Salvation will be a must cop, as Skyzoo is one of the nicest MCs in the hip hop music industry.

Skyzoo – The Making of The Saving Parts 1 and 2

Skyzoo presents part 1 and 2 of the making of his upcoming album The Salvation. In the series, Skyzoo previews some joints off The Salvation, which will be released on Jamla Records / Duck Down Records. From the sounds so far, Skyzoo delivers that classic hip hop music sound on The Salvation. I can’t say I’m surprised by that though, as I’m highly anticipating this album.

Skyzoo – POW! Radio Freestyle

Skyzoo dropped in at POW! Radio and dropped this freestyle… yes, freestyle. No notebooks, no blackberries, no sidekicks (does anyone worthy of mention even still use one of these?)… just straight up off the top rhyming. There still are real emcees rockin’ it in hip hop music today. Skyzoo is one of them. The Salvation is coming soon off Jamla/Duck Down. If you haven’t yet, pick up Double Barrel from Skyzoo’s fellow Brooklynite, Torae. I told you… hip hop music is stronger than ever in 2009.

Duck Down Records Cipher in the Park (Buckshot, Rock, Steele, Torae, Skyzoo, Naledge and more)

Duck Down Records has been at the forefront of the recent resurgence in hip hop music. DruHa, NoHa and the camp are doing real good things for the culture and music as a whole. In April, the conglomerate took it back to the essence with a Cipher in the Park. The cipher is quite possibly one of the illest artforms of the hip hop culture, as emcees work to win over a crowd by showcasing their ability to rhyme. Torae, Skyzoo, Rock of Heltah Skeltah, General Steele of Smif-N-Wessun, Naledge of Kidz in the Hall, Buckshot, and members of Team Facelift step to the plate in this event.

Oh yeah, and Torae and Marco Polo’s Double Barrel is in stores today! Support Hip Hop and Purchase Double Barrel Here!

Skyzoo Cloudkickers Interview With Emilio Sparks

Skyzoo heads over to Staten Island to chop it up with Emilio Sparks and Cloudkickers.com. Emilio Sparks did a very solid job with this interview. Skyzoo starts off the interview by talking about The Power of Words, and how he puts together his mixtapes. He speaks on why it took a little longer than it should have to put out the mixtape. He discusses what it means to be a lyricist, and how his upcoming album, The Salvation, compares to the The Power of Words. Skyzoo gives his input on the new rise of Brooklyn emcees in Torae, Joell Ortiz, Sha Stimuli, and Nino Bless, and how they are avoiding the machine and still making noise, and also not being included in XXL’s Freshman 10.

Skyzoo and Big Zoo Perform at Fat Beats NY on Record Store Day ’09

So today was 2009′s Record Store day. The likes of Skyzoo, Big Zoo, Torae, Marco Polo, Talib Kweli, and DJ Premier all hit up Fat Beats NY to support hip hop music and to urge everyone to do the same. The record store is seriously a dying breed, particularly as the digital movement continues at full force. Thankfully all of the individuals that came out to Fat Beats NY are also well adept to the digitization of the hip hop music industry… but even still, its great to see them come out and support and hopefully Fat Beats NY sticks around for some time.

In this video clip, Skyzoo spits a freestyle over a Blaq Poet instrumental. Skyzoo delivers some serious bars and then he and Big Zoo exchange 4 lines each back and forth really just representing the essence of what hip hop is about. If you haven’t already, go and download The Power Of Words, Skyzoo’s latest mixtape hosted by Statik Selektah and DJ Drama. There’s no denying Skyzoo’s talents on the mic, believe that.
