Culture VI Interviews Royce Da 5’9″

Culture VI sits down with Royce Da 5’9″. He discusses his upcoming Street Hop album and the features which include Bun B, and all of the Slaughterhouse crew. He states that he is better than he’s ever been, and he’s finally entered his own lane without worries of video and radio play. He discusses the importance of Slaughterhouse supporting each other. They speak on Joe Budden‘s beat selection, and Royce’s ear for excellent production. Lastly, he talks about the power and importance of relationships in the music industry.

It sounds like Royce da 5’9″ has a very dope offering with Street Hop. The clip of the beat they played was niiice! I really do agree with him in that he’s found his own lane. The Slaughterhouse situation may have benefited him more than anyone in the group, and honestly, it’s refreshing to see artists say that they are not relying on radio play nor video play, but rather their own grind. It’s really a grass roots movement… Barack Obama done started something! It’s kind of funny how they brought up Budden’s beat selection. Joe Budden is one of the best lyrical artists out, but he does suffer from Nas and Canibus syndrome when it comes to beats.

Crooked I MTV Interview

So Crooked I did get shot at after all… seriously that is the last thing we need, another incredibly talented hip hop artist losing his life. Thankfully the assailant lacked any sort of aim and Crooked I is okay. Anyhow, he sits down with Sway at MTV for this interview. Taken from MTV. Here’s a signficant portion of the article… and then press play to watch the interview.

The former Death Row Records artist said he was trying to do what he normally does — grant the request of a fan — when he almost lost his life.

“Say you’re walking down the street. Some dude comes up to you with a camera phone and he’s like, ‘Can you give a shout-out?’ ” Crooked explained. “You’re like, ‘OK,’ and you’re shouting the dude out. Three seconds later, somebody is shooting at you. Was dude [with the camera phone] trying to get me to stand still? Was he in on it? Was it a coincidence? I don’t know. Mentally I had to fall back for a couple of days. I’ve been in those situations where people take shots or whatever. I’m relaxed around the hip-hop fans. I’m a very accessible dude. When dude came up and was like, ‘Can you give me a shout out?’ I’m like, ‘Cool, what do you want me to say?’ Three seconds later, I hear a noise. I [was] so far removed from the fact it can be gunshots. Then I turn around and see sparks. That’s strange.”

That’s where Crooked stops detailing the story ‚Äî he refuses to elaborate on whether the assailants’ bullets actually struck him. “Where I’m from, certain things you can’t talk about. It’s illegal to our code and how we live.”

“I’m gonna say real things today,” he declared. “That’s where my focus is. I wanna leave a body of work behind, man, that matches a Biggie, that matches a ‘Pac. God is good. I need that body of work that has the potential to change ‚Äî not the world, but a couple of people. Two, three, four million. One million. I don’t care if it’s only one person.”
